Audit Committee
The Audit Committee reviews the Mokena PTA books, bank statements, vouchers and receipts. This is a once a year event held at the end of the school year.

Blood Drive Committee
The Blood Drive Committee works with Heartland or LifeSource Blood Centers along with the school on date and time, create, copy and distribute sign up sheets and flyers, contacts pizza places to have one donate a pizza party for one class room at each school, coordinate volunteers for day of event and post signs for the drive. This is a yearly event.

Dance/Open Gym Committee at Mokena Junior High
The Dance/Open Gym Committee works with the school District on dates and times, contacts the Community Emergency volunteers, coordinates a DJ for the dances, coordinates volunteers and a group or organization to supply refreshments. This is a quarterly event.

Election Committee
The Election Committee keeps order during the election, tallies the ballots and announces the winners of the various elections. This is a once a year or every other year event.

Environmental Committee
The Environmental Committee deals with the issues that relate to protecting individuals from man-made hazards. Creating public awareness of potential and existing hazards. The committee would create, copy and distribute flyers and/or create special informational events for parents to attend (this would include speakers). The committee would decide on the number and type of programs for the year.

Family Fun Fair Committee
The Family Fun Fair Committee decides the prizes, games, entertainment, refreshments and coordinates volunteers for set up, for duration of event and for clean up. The committee will create, copy, get approval and distribute flyers for the event. This is a once a year event.

Fundraiser Committee
The Fundraiser Committee is responsible for choosing a fundraiser for the fall. This fundraiser is most important because it helps to fund most if not all our activities, scholarships, teacher grants and programs throughout the year. The responsibilities include writing and copying flyers for distribution, collecting and tracking money, getting volunteers to help depending on choice of fundraisers (you may need many volunteers or only a few) and work with the school District on dates. The time requirement for this committee depends more on the fundraiser chosen. This is a twice a year event.

Health Committee
The Health Committee is concerned with the physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of the students. The committee could do programs to inform parents and students, create flyers to be distributed (approved by board and school) and coordinating activities that are age appropriate for each grade level. The committee would decide on the number and type of programs for the year. 

Legislation Committee
The Legislation Committee is responsible to inform the local PTA members of legislative issues and encourage communication between PTAs and the members and their responsive area legislators. The commitment for this committee depends on the programs decided by the committee.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee creates the membership forms and gains approval from the Board. The committee also arranges for volunteers to attend the Back-to-School nights to promote the PTA and sign up parents and staff as members. The committee is required to keep track of the member’s contact information and pass along a report each month to the PTA Board. This committee works throughout the school year. 

Newsletter Committee/ Volunteer

The Newsletter committee is responsible for formatting, editing and distributing the Mokena PTA newsletter The Planet every month. The time requirement depends on your specific “job” considering that responsibilities can be distributed among individuals. This is a monthly event.

Nomination Committee
The Nomination Committee receives potential candidates for various positions and decides on the appropriate candidate based on experience, work history and education. The choices are then given on election night to be voted upon. This is a once a year or every other year event.

Open House/Back to School Night Committee
The Open House Committee is responsible for volunteers to set up, man and clean up tables. The committee is a type of hospitality committee to help the membership committee inform and recruit new members. This is a once a year event on various days.

Program Night Committee

The Program Night Committee works with the District and schools for date and time availability, chooses special programs from entertaining to informational, books the guests, coordinates volunteers for snacks, creates, copies and distributes sign up sheets. At this time it is a twice a year event.

Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee is responsible to getting the community and parents to know the PTA story. The public support can bring the help and recognition we need to further the PTA objects. The committee would be responsible for writing press releases, notifying of awards, promoting student, school and community events and keep file of all public relation activity. This committee would work throughout the year with the PTA, school and community.

Recycling/Ink Jet Cartridges Committee
The Recycling/Ink Jet Cartridges Committee is responsible for collecting, boxing and distributing the appropriate cartridges to the proper company. The committee informs the PTA Board of their numbers and totals and informs the schools and parents of how to donate their cartridges. This is a monthly event.

Reflections Committee
The Reflections Committee is responsible for creating, copying and distributing flyers and information on the event provided by the IL and National PTA. The committee collects and submits all entries to the appropriate individuals. This is a once a year event that lasts approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

Santa’s Secret Workshop Committee
The Santa’s Secret Workshop Committee will coordinate school schedule, volunteers for set up, duration of event and clean up. The committee will decide and purchase “gifts” to be sold, keep an inventory and get sponsorship when possible. The committee will create, copy and distribute flyers for the event. This is a once a year event.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon Committee
The Staff Appreciation Luncheon Committee works with the Staff Appreciation Committee and School District, decides on theme and orders food, utensils, plates, napkins, decorations and coordinates volunteers for set up, during event and clean up. The committee is responsible for creating, copying and distributing flyers and sign up sheets. This is a once a year event.

Staff Essay Contest Committee
The Staff Essay Contest Committee is responsible for creating, copying and distributing flyers for children to submit to the committee. The committee then reads and votes on the various essays submitted. The committee plans, sets up and creates a program for a ceremony and invites the winners and the teachers. This is a once a year event lasting approximately two weeks for submissions.

Volunteer Committee
The Volunteer Committee works with the Membership Committee to create volunteer lists for each event and contact individuals to help with the events. The committee will also work with the other committee chairs to find out the volunteer needs for each event. This is a committee that works throughout the year, assisting with events.
