We will learn about sentence structure, grammar and the parts of speech.  Nouns, Verbs, Pronouns, Adjectives and Adverbs are other areas of concentration.  We will do proofreading exercises and editing of our own writing.

Components of a balanced language arts program emphasize the following skills:

• Utilize spelling rules on both spelling tests and written exercises

• Identify sentence parts including subject and predicate

• Identify the parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives

• Demonstrate use of plurals and possessives

• Using a variety of resources: glossaries, dictionaries and thesauruses

• Demonstrate attentive listening skills during instruction and oral presentations

• Present oral reports; tell a story, give directions, interviews, etc.

• Practice socially accepted communication skills
