We will use a variety of concrete and abstract methods with lots of hands on experience to keep interest and involvement high! We will work with graphs, time, money, probability, fractions, multiplication, and simple geometry. We will reinforce strategies for problem solving and discuss different methods and tricks! Please work with your child to be sure that he or she has mastered the basic addition and subtraction facts. This is very important as all of our work will build on these basic facts!
Students are taught computational decision-making skills so as to:
Read, write and order numbers
Estimate, round and compare whole numbers
Apply addition and subtraction facts to solve multi-digit problems
Introduce basic multiplication and division facts through 12's
Identify fractions as part of a whole or part of a group
Recognize geometric and number patterns
Emphasize and reinforce problem solving strategies and skills
Collect, organize and display data using tables, graphs, charts, and arrays
Introduce students to probability and predictions
