Q:  If my child is absent from school during the day, can they attend any after school functions that evening?

A:  Students who are absent from school for any reason will not be allowed to attend any after school functions for that evening.  Students must be in attendance for at least a half day or more in order to attend after school functions.

Q:  What happens if my child is sick and absent on the day when they are scheduled for a detention?

A:  When you call the school to let them know that your child will be absent from school, please let them know that he/she has a detention that day.  We will then reschedule your child's detention upon their return.

Q:  What are the required core subjects for my student?

A:  The required core subjects are Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Health (8th Grade Only).

Q:  Why does my child have two periods of Language Arts?

A:  The Language Arts block is separated into two sections-Reading and English.

Q:  How long do classes last?

A:  Each class lasts for 42 minutes.

Q: When does my eighth grader need to register for classes at the high school?

A:  We will begin registering for high school classes in February.  You will be invited to the high school to do this.

Q:  What are the requirements for my eighth grader to be able to attend Great America?

A:  Students must not have any excessive disciplinary infractions in order to participate in the Great America trip.

Q:  When can my seventh grader sign up for eighth grade Lincoln-Way Spanish class?

A:  Students must listen for the announcements.  This is also posted around the school.  Sign-ups usually begin in April.  A letter will also be sent home.  Please keep in mind that the deadline date is firm, so plan ahead.

Q:  Can my child bring in a treat to share with friends at lunch?

A:  Unfortunately, students are not permitted to bring in treats to share with friends.  We have a high number of students with food allergies.

Q:  Are students allowed to carry cell phones from class to class?

A:  Cell phones can be carried, however, they must remain off and may not be used inside the school building without prior permission.

Q:  Can my child bring in a treat to share with friends at lunch?

Q:  Can my child use the office phone during the day?

A:  Yes, students are permitted to use the office phone during the day when it is deemed necessary for them to do so.  Students are allowed to use the phone once per quarter.  After that, the pay phone in hall by the gym is available to students.

Q:  Are students required to shower during PE?

A:  No, students do not take showers during PE.

Q:  Where do I get a gym suit?  How much does it cost?

A:  Gym suits are available from the PE teachers.  A complete suit of shorts and a shirt costs $15.  However, they may be purchased separately.  Individual shorts are $10 and shirts are $5.

Q:  Do we have an after school activity bus?

A:  No, we do not currently have an after school activity bus.

Q:  In order for my child to participate in graduation ceremonies, what do I need to do as the parent?

A:  All outstanding debts need to be paid in full prior to the ceremony.

Q:  Are students allowed to carry bookbags, purses, and bags from class to class?

A:  For safety reasons, we encourage students to leave bookbags in their lockers.  Additionally, we feel this practice will help students develop appropriate organization skills.  Purses are acceptable.

Q:  Why are permanent markers not allowed in the school building?

A:  Permanent markers are not a necessary tool for school on our supply list.  This is a preventative measure to discourage damage to property of others.

Q:  Can my child bring their audio equipment to school (ipod, disc player, headset)?

A:  Students may bring this item to school for use on the school bus or before and after school.  Students will not be permitted to use these devices during the school day.  These items may be confiscated if used during class.
