Who stole Christmas? Definitely not our Athletic Boosters! Thank you for organizing an awesome Grinch Basketball Games even for our athletes, students, and families. Everyone had a great time, even the ones whose hearts were two sizes too small!

MIS continued to honor our Veterans throughout the month of November with a school-wide fundraiser benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. Students and families supported the effort through online donations as well as the purchase of pencils, stickers, and wristbands.
Today, Wednesday, December 3, we had the privilege of hosting a representative from the Wounded Warrior Project. She shared her personal journey and spoke about the impact the organization has had on her family and on thousands of others across the country. Our students gained valuable insight into how their contributions will help support and uplift Veterans in need.
We were proud to present her with a donation check in the amount of $721.00. We are grateful to our MIS community for their generosity and commitment in honoring those who have served.

🎵 Two Mokena musicians, Sydney (clarinet in Symphonic Band) and Chloe (bass in Orchestra), represented the Mokena Music Department at The Illinois Music Education Association's Junior District Festival! They both took part in a full day of music making with students from the southwestern metropolitan Chicago area. We are so proud of their hard work and incredible performances! 🎵

December 2nd is National Special Education Day as it commemorates the anniversary of the nation’s first federal special education law, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)! Today we honor and celebrate the incredible teachers, service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, parents, and community partners who empower our students each and every day!

To practice oral language expression and vocabulary, Mrs. Grzybowski’s students described an image to her and she drew a picture using only their descriptions. What a great way to practice descriptive details!

6th grade students enjoyed their field trip to iFLY last week as an extension to their Energy, Forces, and Motion science unit. The experience included hands-on activities, including "skydiving", that allowed students to see their learning come to life and applied in this unique setting!

Last week, our 8th graders had a truly rare and meaningful experience in ELA class that they will remember for the rest of their lives. They heard a firsthand account from a Holocaust survivor, Steen Metz. Mr. Metz shared his powerful story and his experiences in a concentration camp, giving students a real and human connection to the history we’ve been studying through the novel Refugee and, later this year, The Diary of Anne Frank.
