Hello Meteor Families!
I realized this morning that I failed to attach the Friday Update Script last Friday. I know some of you would rather read it than watch or listen to it.

7th grade scientists are learning about photosynthesis. Do plants really need carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight to make food? They are using experimental evidence to find out!

Schools are open tomorrow, January 21st, for in-person learning!

What do you get when you combine 267 students, 22 parents, and one principal?
AN AWESOME MOVIE MIS MOVIE NIGHT!
Thank you to all of our parent volunteers, it was a wonderful night.

8th grade artists worked hard to complete these shaded silverware drawings. They arranged the silverware themselves, and took their own photos. Students then used Google Slides to create a grid over their photo to help them enlarge and draw the silverware on paper. They shaded their silverware drawings using graphite pencils.
These drawings will all be displayed at the 28th annual Lincoln-Way ArtWorks Festival. ArtWorks 2025 will be held on March 15th at Lincoln-Way East.

At the January Board of Education meeting, our prinicpals presented a mid-year update on each school's progress towards their 2024-2025 goals. Our school improvement planning process reflects a district-wide commitment to continual growth in what we do for our students. We are very proud of the students and teachers for their hard work and progress made so far this year! ⭐🚀 ☄️

We did it! Finally back outside and we were able to use our new play surface! The area received 2 thumbs up from our students. When the weather permits, more will be added for our students: a pavilion, benches, a basketball hoop, soccer goals, and Gaga Ball are all in the works.

Yesterday we debuted this year's Mud Turtle T-shirts. The design is by Emma J. (pictured, middle, with friends). Today we asked the 8th grade to show their school pride by wearing their shirts (group picture).
Thank you to the Mokena PTA who makes sure that every single 8th grader gets one at no cost to the students. Their generosity and support makes this annual tradition possible!

Congratulations to our two 5th grade DARE essay winners, Cassidy G. and Adrianna M., who were chosen to read their essays to our Board of Education at their January meeting! We are very proud of you!

Friendly reminder... No school on Monday!

MES kindergarten students are learning about living and nonliving things. Today students observed a plant and discussed if a plant is living or nonliving.

MES students in the Early Start and Early Childhood Preschool programs came back to school today for an open-gym playdate. Students were able to meet new friends in different classes and parents were able to mingle and get to know each other.

Third grade students went on a "poster walk" this week as a way to activate background knowledge about how different types of frogs survive. In small groups, students observed pictures and read text exerpts on posters and then shared their inferences about each.

On Wednesday, during the early dismissal, the MJHS teachers learned about several Artificial Intelligence tools that they can use to enhance what they are doing in the classroom. The workshop was presented by our incredible Instructional Coach, Mrs. Jessica Mucenski.
Friendly reminder, tomorrow is an early dismissal day!

As part of their phonics lesson, third grade students created word chains utilizing the word parts and sounds they are learning!

Our 6th graders are mastering the art of argument! Using the EduProtocol "Stake Your Claim," they've tackled whether schools should start later - learning to build evidence-based positions on real-world issues. Next week, they'll apply these skills to explore student choice in learning. Proud to see these young writers becoming thoughtful, articulate advocates! #6thGradeELA #CriticalThinking
