6th grade students are learning to recognize how a novel's plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as identify how characters respond to events and change as a result. Keep up the great work!

Kindergarten students are working to become play experts as part of their ELA unit "Toys and Play". Today, students practiced speaking, listening, and language standards as they explored attributes of toys and used descriptive language to discuss the toys in small groups.

Thank you to Ms. Schindler, Ms. Al-Takriti, Ms. Storino, and Dr. Johnson for putting together our first ELL Parent Information Night!

Friendly reminder about upcoming fall pictures! 📸

This afternoon Mokena Elementary School conducted its annual required lockdown drill. Students and staff did a great job in responding to the prompts required of the drill. A 911 call was placed and first responders activated in response to the drill as well. Our Mokena Police Department’s response was immediate. Please know that our students and staff are safe, and that any observed law enforcement response was not for an actual incident. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Please contact the District if you have any questions or concerns.

3rd Graders are working hard on this hot day! In math, students are creating division sentences with hands-on counters. In ELA, students are collaborating in groups to summarize stories using a graphic organizer. Keep up the great work!

Important announcement: Mokena Junior High will have a remote learning day on Thursday, August 24th due to HVAC issues. All other Mokena Schools will remain open.

Thank you to all of our families that came to MJHS Back to School Night yesterday!

As part of our new ELA curriculum, 5th grade students are learning the grade level skills needed to have collaborative discussions together. Today, students reviewed the discussion norms they created as a class and participated in the "think-pair-share" protocol to discuss their ideas around the module's guiding questions.

3rd grade students selected independent research reading books today as part of our new ELA curriculum! Students "test drove" many books about their module topic, "Overcoming Learning Challenges Near and Far", and found a book that was their perfect choice!
